Kurt Vonnegut has passed on. Here was a writer of great grace and style, whose ideas came from all over the place, who used himself as a character to great aplomb, who could envision the worst futures and could still see hope, and who gave us Harrison Bergeron and Billy Pilgrim and Kilgore Trout.

He was one of the great writers of the 20th century, and even if he was not one to accept the tag of Science Fiction Author, he is easily among the best to ever ask "What If?"

RIP, Kurt.

How was I first exposed to Kurt Vonnegut? Slaughterhouse-Five? Cat's Cradle? Nope. It was through this giveaway I got in elementary school. It was part of a series - I think there was also one from Art Buchwald. All these years later, and it's stuck with me.
