Looking for something to do that isn't related to the Super Bowl? How about coming to a housefilk?

Join us at Deb Wunder's place on 2451 East 26 Street, Ground Floor, in Brooklyn. The singing will run from 1 to 5 pm. Please note that cats live on the premises, though at least one will be stowed away for the day.

Please let us know if you will be coming. See you soon!!

Posting from breakfast at OVFF. Totally having a blast. And finally got to be in the same place at the right time to hear SJ Tucker. Took me five years but it was worth the wait.

But me being me, I was following that incredible World Series game from the filk room on this here phone. Isnt this an amazing time that we can listen to the songs and "watch" a ball game at once? Hooray for multitasking!?

More filking ahead and then back home for what might be an intense work week. Thank goodness I have fandom in all its permutations to recharge my batteries.

Lunacon!

Hey all. So I will be at Lunacon. Alas, because Batya is still in her mourning period, she will not be joining me. It's going to be really weird to be there without her, but we agreed that I needed a break after a particularly long stretch of insanity at work. I have not attended a con from start to finish in close to two years, and I miss it. Thus off to the con I go.

Where can you find me? Try these panels...

• What is Filk? An introduction to the music of Science Fiction Fandom. (Panel), Fri 17:00 - 18:00, Halsted I

• Morning People Support Group (Kaffeeklatch), Sat 09:00 - 10:00, Gazebo

• Early Bird Filking (Filk), Sat 10:00 - 11:00, Halsted I

• Ecumenifilk, Sat 11:00 - 12:00, Halstead I

• DC Comics Redux (Panel), Sat 13:00 - 14:00, Elijah Budd

• Attending your first filk convention. Which one is right for you? (Panel), Sun 12:00 - 13:00, Halsted I

• Comics to Films (Panel), Sun 14:00 - 15:00, Westchester Ballroom A2

I will also look to see if there are any other panels in need of help on Saturday afternoon. But you can also look in the filk room, especially at night. And if you are a panelist as well, there is the Green Room.

Also, as I am helping run the ecumenifilk, I need some suggestions from fellow filkers for Jewish-themed filk that would fit the topic.

If you are going, I hope to see you there.

As some of you know, Lunacon overlaps with Purim. While I suspect that it's possible to do everything we need to for Purim at a con, it would require a bit of jumping through hoops, especially in terms of arranging for services Sunday morning. So Batya and I will be skipping Lunacon.

And alas we will also miss OVFF, as it takes place the same weekend as the final leg of the fall Jewish holidays. And since the holiday starts Wednesday night and runs three days, it would be pretty close to impossible to attend that con and observe the holidays the way we usually do.

So this year is a bit of a bummer. We will be at Contata - we better be since we are on concom - and are considering Balticon. But otherwise, I am in the middle of a long, long stretch between cons. I miss it.

When I saw this story of an astronaut playing her flute on the Space Station, my first thought was whether the flute came with memories of another life lived long ago on a dead planet. And then whether the acoustics are better in the access tubes above Engineering.

And then I saw that she played "Bluenose" by Stan Rogers. Stan Rogers played in space. How cool is that? I think Stan would have approved.

Contata!!!

I have been remiss in promoting Contata. Seeing as I'm deputy con chair, it's time to rectify that.

What is Contata? Contata is the New York version of NEfilk, the annual Northeast Floating Filk Convention (which rotates between the NY area, the Boston area and the Washington area). The con will be from June 20 to 22 at the Parsippany Hilton, in Parsipanny, NJ.

Who are the guests? Well, the Guest of Honor is Heather Dale/. The toastmaster is Tom Smith, the listener guest is Crystal Paul, and the Interfilk guests are Louie and Nate Bucklin. I suspect that if you are into filk in the least, you know some or all of these names. And that you are saying to yourself, "wow, I love Mordred's Lullaby" and "what new songs will Tom have up his sleeve?" and "I've always wanted to see the Bucklins live" and "was does Crystal have in mind for her slot?" and "what am I doing June 20 through 22?"

We have a full slate of programming planned, including concerts by voices familiar and new, kids' activities (including a kiddie concert and a movie room), the one and only Contata Kosher Con Suite, and more! A progress report is in progress, and will tell you even more (once it's done and I link to it).

Feel free to follow the links and to ask me any questions you might have about the con. (Please note that after this post, all future entries on the con will be limited to those on my filk filter, so if you are not on the filter yet and want to be, let me know.)

I hope to see as many of you as possible at the con!! The concom assures the public a splendid time will be had by all.
