Judging by the reaction of various quarters on the Net, last Friday's Supernatural was a hit.

Personally, I felt it was self indulgent to the extreme, tacky rather than funny, pointless, and problematic. As well as a huge disappointment given some earlier meta episodes.

I still love this show, but it's time to wrap it up.

I have been a fan of Doctor Who for 25 years. I have seen pretty much every episode of 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11, and a lot of the other incarnations (minus all those missing years of 2). I have smiled, frowned, gasped, even shrugged at all the faces and all the companions, all the good guys and all the bad. I have waited for the show to return, and stuck it out through the great and the not so great.

So I think it means a lot when I say that I have never, ever been happier with the show than I am today. Yes, I think if analyze the plot here, everything might come tumbling down. So I will instead bask in the strength of the storytelling and the emotion and the acting. Matt Smith has taken his place alongside Tom Baker, Peter Davison, and David Tennant. Karen Gillen is on the short list of amazing companions. And this finale was a tour de force that was at once gripping, hysterical and moving. It has been a long time since I was as pleased with an hour of TV as I am now.

I cannot wait to see what comes next from Eleven and Amy and everyone else. Steven Moffatt, I tip my hat to you.
