Thoughts for a Monday
Jan. 23rd, 2006 09:56 am- Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in a single basketball game last night. Didn't think that was possible given how the game is played now. I wonder if he can keep going and reach 100, whihc has only be done the once, by the much taller Wilt Chamberlain.
- I read Tom DeHaven's It's Superman. An interesting book, but it isn't Superman. It's more a moderately realistic novel of life in the 30s in NYC (yes, NYC and not Metropolis) and a few other places, that happens to feature a young Clark Kent and Lois Lane. DeHaven doesn't get what makes Superman so super. But then, that's far too common these days.
- Looks like we are finally get actual major plot development and advancement on Lost. but can we stop with the Jsck flashbacks? He's had five so far, which is probably two more than we needed.
- Wild comic book rumor of the day: the men who created the 1990 Flash TV show, Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo, are going to be writing the next Flash comic series for DC. These are also they guys who adapted The Rockeeter (which I love) for the movies. Not sure why DC would turn to them so many years after the TV show, or what this means in terms of who will be the Flash. But it might make me keep reading.
- There was a really cool article in yesterday's Times about Supernatural but I can't access it for some reason. The jist of it is that the show is trying to be a weekly hour-long horror film, and nothing more. And that it's a hit (by WB standards). I like that some shows, rather than trying to be the next fill-in-the-blank, are content to be what they are. Then again, I also like that this show is slowly getting more involved, if not actually complex.

But all that said, I will give the first issues of this new comic a try.
