How DID I Get To Work?

sdelmonteStage one: walk 30 minutes from home to the end of the line for an LIRR train out of Forest Hills. It's a walk I've done before, and in cold weather. Play tape of Star Trek II score to keep me moving.
Stage two: wait on line for 45 minutes. Longest line I've ever seen for anything aside from Star Wars films. Listen to local classic rock radio station. See a bumper sticker that reads "My other car is a broom." If only...
Stage three: 30 minutes on the train. The fare was supposed to be $4 but no one ever came to collect it. I doubt this will happen again. Read some of Speaker for the Dead.
Stage four: walk from Penn Station to Lincoln Center, where I went for a press screening tied to the Museum's annual NY Jewish Film Festival (which we co-produce with the Film Society of Lincoln Center). Listen to Gershwin.
Stage five: Drink tea and discover no one has come for the screening.
Stage six: try to take a cab from Lincoln Center to the East Side. Only get as far as 96th and CPW as the tranverse is closed. Walk the rest of the way to the office.
See how easy it is.
