Tommorow is of course the 50th anniversary of one of the signal events in recent science.

On November 5, 1955, Dr. Emmett L. Brown, while hanging a clock in his bathroom, slipped on wet porcelain and whacked his head. When he came to, he came up with the flux capacitor, the device that makes time travel possible.

Fifty years later, the world still stands in awe of this discovery.

To mark the occasion, Batya and I were hoping to have a big group over to watch Back to the Future, but possible family obligations are likely to prevent this. Still, this entire week is a good time to watch that film and its sequels, given that the events of the first two films take place largely between November 5 and November 12 (the day lightning struck the clocktower, among others things). So if we find we can invite the world over next Saturday, I will say so.

I was also planning to bring my newest Milliways Bar RPG character into the Bar this weekend. But if there is one thing Doc Brown has, it's time. So after I watch the film again, I will dig down for my Doc Brown voice and introduce him to the game.

In the meantime, let's raise a glass (but not drink it) to Doc Brown on the anniverary of this milestone.

That's so very awesome, still. I love his character, and the movies in general.
