15 Years Later...
Sep. 6th, 2005 08:41 amToday marks my fifteenth anniversary at The Jewish Museum.
Really.
Yes, really.
I didn't think I'd be here 15 months at first. And there were times when I was trying very hard to find a new job, if only because the longer you stay in one place, the harder it gets to move on.
But you can all guess that I must love what I do. And despite the fairly low pay, despite knowing the place perhaps a bit too well, I do love it here. Certainly I love being able to get all the Jewish holidays and still having four weeks vacation. Certainly I love having early closings on Fridays for the sabbath. But I also love being able to work in the art world. Being able to say that I help to entertain people and to get them to think.
There are worse jobs. Worse ways to spend the time between waking up and coming home. And I am truly thankful for what I've had in the fifteen years here.
But sometimes I have to wonder: who stays in a job for fifteen years? Only nuts like me, I suppose. (Of course, my boss is here over 20 years, and her boss is here over 10, so maybe the place is conducive to nuts?)
