And in four hours I will be at the Queens County courthouse, where I am (in theory) in a jury in a civil case. I son't think I can talk about any of the details even at this point, but it is an auto crash case. I'd say that there is a good chance that I will be sent home as soon as I get there, as the parties could settle at the last minite, which is fairly common in civil cases. But it's just as likely that I will have to serve.

I have no idea what to expect. It could be interesting. It could be dull. The only thing I will predict is that this will not resemble anything I ever saw on The Practice.

Also of note, we finally saw The Incredibles. Without a doubt, a really clever, intelligent super-hero film, as well as a great James Bond-style film. Also another visual triumph for Pixar, with excellent voice work by most of the cast. Not quite as heartfelt as Finding Nemo or The Iron Giant, but certainly a far sight better than more super-hero films have been of late. Brad Bird clearly loves and respects comic books, and while the film never takes itself too seriously, it does treat the idea of the super-hero seriously.

This is also clearly a Fantastic Four movie, complete with a great homage to the FF's first adventure at the end of the film. The bar for the upcoming real FF has been set very high.

And naturally, I find myself wondering who all the other heroes mentioned were, and wondering just how Bob Parr became incredible, and what Helen Parr's maiden name was, and how she got here powers, and so on. Bird created in the space of two hours a very inviting and fairly distinct super-hero universe. If Disney is really planning to launch a real comic book company, they could do worse than to hire major talents to write comics set in that world.

Finally! You, of all people, would really appreciate that movie.
(I loved the thing with the capes.)

Did you watch the extras?

There's one bit that gives you backstories on a lot of the other heroes mentioned.

I love "Jack-Jack Attack" with a passion that may exceed my love for the movie itself. (And it has everything to do with that being Boychild's nickname and *those* being the things we expect him to start doing any minute.)

When I had jury duty some years back, in the introductory lecture the jurors got at the beginning of the day, we were told that frequently cases will be settled solely because they know there's a jury pool in the building and ready to be seated. The jury officer didn't mention anything about sources of this statistic, but I could easily see it being true.

You should look for the easter egg on the DVD of "The Incredibles" of the movie done with sock puppets...
