ALFRED - He's the voice of reason, the only man who can talk back to Batman, a skileld medic, a father to Bruce and Dick and even Barbara and Tim, and still a gentleman's gentleman. That he still stands out in a show where Batman is human and Jim Gordon is so darned likeable is all the more impressive.
6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
GILES - He started out as the only adult in a world full of teens and as the smartest man in Sunnydale, and grew to be suave, complex, failable, cool, and (not unlike Alfred) a father to those who had no father. That he stopped being many of these things in season 7 was all the more painful.

LOCKE - It's partly Terry O'Quinn's amazing portrayal but it's also the strange mix of affable shaman and creepy zealot. I think that everything on this shows pivots on him at this point.

I love *all* the characters, and find it really really *really* difficult to pick a favorite... but Scorpy's definitely in the running if I had to choose.
