20 years ago, Sports Illustrated ran one fo the grand hoax news stories of all time. Met fans got their hopes up, only to have them dashed (as usual) by the news of a mysterious young pitcher who could through the ball at 160 mph. Sidd Finch, alas, was not real, only the creation of writer Goerge Plimpton.
Today the New York Times remembers the hoax, and the man who posed for the intriguing photo from the back.
