As you may recall, I am booked to be on a panel at Lunacon about the Hugos.

Of course, I have never voted for them. I have only a glancing knowledge of them. But I figure that I am entitled to an opinion, if I do the research.

So I turn to them's of you that have voted.

Do the Hugo Awards as constituted now still work?

Does the voting system make sense?

Do you participate in the nominations?

Are you aware of how a supporting member can participate?

Do you like the exclusivity of the voting? (Filkers are aware that voting for the Pegasus Awards is open to anyone and on the net.)

Let me know your thoughts, and any suggestions for Websites to research.

thanks.

Stangely enough, I'm not on any panels at Lunacon this year (go figure).

That said, I'm a regular Hugo voter and there's more chatter about it in SMOFfing list than you can shake a stick at.

Do the Hugo Awards as constituted now still work?

Yes, although I'm still divided about the short form/long form split for BDP (the "Buffy Hugo"), and I note that BDP is overwhelming going to go to movies because people are more likely to have seen that

Does the voting system make sense?

The preferential ballot system is...confusing, at times. IMO

Do you participate in the nominations?

I don't usually nominate things; I don't see/read enough new stuff to make decent nominations in most categories.

Are you aware of how a supporting member can participate?

Well, yeah, I've been aware of that for ages.

Do you like the exclusivity of the voting? (Filkers are aware that voting for the Pegasus Awards is open to anyone and on the net.)

It doesn't bother me. The Hugos are voted on by members of the Worldcon; I see nothing wrong with that. I mean, the Oscars are voted on by members of the Academy of Whatever it is. The Hugos and the Peggies are different. (I'm not actually sure that the Pegasus awards work as implemented, but that's another story)
