Things to Note at the Con
Mar. 22nd, 2004 04:11 pmIt was a good con, really. Here's some good stuff I saw or heard...
- Best hall costume? Scorpius in a Hawaiian shirt. I hear there was also a Chiana, but I didn't see her.
- On my brief trip to the game, I got to try a beta version of a 1800s Chrononauts expansion set. All the players with one young exception were filkers as well as gamers. The crossover is quite intriguing.
- I must be a program participant every year, as the Green Room actually has food. Even some kosher food (in the order of sandwiches and penaut butter and yogurt).
- Actually, while it was a little unnerving being on a comic book panel with Bob Greenberger, who's been at DC more or less since 1984, it was fun. I hope I can do it again next time. (I attended four comic bok themed panels, a record for Lunacon. One can hope this is a trend.)
- Kudos to the con on having a Dealers' Row of hotel rooms, allowing for new dealers in the Dealers' Rooms and more shoping hours for the fen.
- Found the third Roger Allen McBride Asimovian Robot spinoff novel and the second Arthur C. Clarke Rama novel.
- As noted, there was new filk blood this year, including a longtime young fan - he must have been 14 when I first met him at my first con - who demonstrated a remarkable talent for instafilk, banging out a Beatles-based filk to a LotR theme in about half an hour, and a Hotel Escher-themed filk of "Wild Rover" (I think that's the song's name) in about ten minutes.
