Been trying to post of late. Words are eluding me for some reason. So some short items...
- Went to S&G's wedding's Sunday. Had a ball. Got to say a blessing under the canopy, along with six other friends of the couple, something I think none of us have ever done. Danced a lot. Came home sore, and so wired I slept two hours and then couldn't sleep for four hours.
Weddings are always nice, but I usually don't enjoy them. Too crowded, too full of strangers. But when the crowd is small and a lot of the people there are among your absolute closest friends in the world, and both bride and groom are friends you would do anything for, everything changes. It becomes a total joy to throw myself into it, to dance like a fool, and just make the bride and groom that much happier.
- Return of the King wins big. Wow. All these years, and finally, a fantasy film gets a little respect. And people we feel we know well, from watching all those hours of the Appendices, are among the winners. It's so cool to see so many of the people involved honored. And isn't Peter Jackson, in his rumpled non-tuxedo, really as much a fan as the rest of us? How many other people would ever accept an Oscar looking like clothes matter a lot less than the honor? Besides, it's not he won another Hugo on Sunday.
- News from Mars that there is solid evidence the Opportunity landing site was once much, much wetter. In just two months, the two Rovers have found so much, and they're just getting warmed up. This, however, is a lot bigger, as it makes the next steps, the search for water in the present day, that much more intriguing and tantalizing.
That said, I was hoping for an even bigger story when NASA announced a special news conference. But I am willing to bet that "Water Found on Mars" is not so far off.
- Tom Smith has a Livejournal now. He's at
filkertom, and plans to use it to say what's on his mind, much as he used his homepage till now. Also, visit his revised homepage at www.tomsmithonline.com.
- Don't forget to vote if you are in any of the Super Tuesday states and are a registered Democrat. Send a message, even if the message is "really, I want Bush out, but Dean's still my choice. (Dean is still on the ballot in most states as it was too late to remove his name. I think that Dean's supporters might do worse than to remind the Two Johns how hard Dean worked for their vote.)
