sdelmonte: (DC Fanboy)

What a rough day.  First Roger Ebert, and now word of the passing of Carmine Infantino, legendary comic book artist.  Infantino was one of the last artists left who was active at the tail end of the "Golden Age of Comics" in the 40s, and was at the vanguard of the Silver Age. His redesign of The Flash for a new era ushered in the resurgence of the superhero, and his pencils were often sleek and modern in ways perfectly suited to the dawn of the Space Age.

Infantino later helped rework Batman's costume, introducing the familiar yellow oval, and he was an influential editorial presence at DC in the 60s, There were very few DC heroes he didn't draw.

But to me, he will always be the man who gave us the look of clean cut Barry Allen and his alter ego in the red suit, and who then surrounded the Flash with one of the most colorful rogues gallery ever.

Rest well, Carmine.  You will be missed, but never forgotten.
