Saw Brave today. It's become something of a tradition for us to see a Pixar film on the Fourth. But Pixar rarely disappoints.
As Pixar films go,. this one was the best looking since Finding Nemo, but the story was a little light. I think the 1:40 running time probably worked against it. And I wonder if there was some pressure from the Disney side on the Pixar side to be a bit more conventional and less intricate. Overall, though, the amazing animation and strong characters and voice work make up for most flaws. It's not at the level of Nemo or Ratatouille or the Toy Story films, but it still has a lot of Pixar magic and heart.
This is a good time for medieval period piece animated films. Brave goes together well with How to Train Your Dragon and Tangled. All three also have similar themes. I wonder if that means anything.
