Finally Saw The Avengers
Jun. 17th, 2012 03:33 pmWill it surprise anyone that I didn't love it as much as pretty much everyone else in fandom? I am, as ever, a contrarian.
It was a reasonably good film. A great script and generally great performances in service of a rather bland plot and connected to some action scenes that felt endless to me. At almost no time did it bring me a sense of suspense, and at almost no point did it really feel like much was at stake. despite that fact that the plot said it was.
It was basically what it said on the tin. A film featuring a bunch of Marvel heroes doing what Marvel heroes do. But after Dark Knight and Hellboy 2 and The Incredibles and Iron Man, there is no reason why a superhero film can't go further. Other than that the goal was to tell a very specific story and nothing more.
