No Taxation Without Representation?

So as it happens, Anthony Weiner was my congressman. Not gonna comment about his downfall. But I will note that I currently don't have an state assemblyman either. She retired in March two months after starting a new term, and inexplicably Governor Cuomo II has not set a date for a special election.

So here we are, missing two representatives. And I have to wonder, is this a form of taxation without representation? Surely the people in my district are entitled to some share of our taxes back until they hold special elections for the position. Barring that, maybe they can schedule the special elections sooner rather than later?

I can only hope re: the special elections happening soon. :( Getting taxes back would be awesome, too, but as someone who's seen firsthand the "taxation without representation" state that DC's been living in for centuries now...yeah.

Thoughts on the election? Do you feel represented?

I think I agree with Turner about the need for more homeland security money for NYC. That's it. He is from the other side on everything else, and I am less than thrilled that a moderate Jewish Democrat can't get elected in New York.

What bothers me is how people voted. If it was just an anti-Obama protest vote, I sort of get that, though I just don't see how anyone could watch the Debt Crisis Follies and want more Republicans in Washington. If this was an "Obama is bad for Israel" vote, I don't really buy it, and don't like people voting based on that instead of who's good for the US, but I am used to that sort of thinking.

But if Weprin really lost votes because he voted for gay marriage...OW. I hate to think that my fellow Jews are really that bigoted. But it's possible.
