Smoke Gets In Your House

The long and short of it: we had a small fire overnight. We are both fine if quite shaken. The smoke detector did its job and woke us, and the FDNY did their job and stopped the small fire from being a large one.

I cannot say this more strongly: smoke detectors save lives. I think it saved ours.

We have cleaned up, thrown out an old microwave cart and some cookbooks, and are very grateful to God, the Kidde Nighthawk Smoke Detector, and the FDNY for making something little stay that way.

It was the stove being left on a low flame, as we occasionally do on the sabbath. It wasn't low enough and ignited the microwave cart. Ironically enough, we don't use it for the microwave. And the microwave was put away for Passover.
