Brief, hopefully spoiler free thoughts on Supernatural.

No need to amplify the dissatisfaction over last night's SPN. Indeed, if you are not angry, or pissed, or annoyed, or ready to quit the show, I would like to hear from you as to why.

Because last night gave us a well made, well acted hour of everything that this show does wrong. And while I'm not quitting, I won't blame anyone who does.

The only good news is that we have till January to recover. Normally, a two month gap is not welcome, but maybe we need a break from our show to deal with it again.

Oh, and I suppose Mark Sheppard's guest role is also good news, since he was great. It's not his fault (nor that of any of the actors) that the rest of the hour was so utterly painful.

I cried until I was literally physically ill, and had to turn the captions on in order to hear the dialogue.

I . . . guess I am no more pissed off about this than I was at JKR for all the deaths in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, or at Joss for the deaths in Serenity. And, y'know, I was pretty pissed at JKR for killing Lupin and Tonks, and I was very pissed at Joss for killing Wash. But I've been under the impression that this is the final season of SPN, and it's a war season, and so I expect people we love to die pointlessly. That's what writers do when they're building up to a climactic battle. I saw someone -- misslucyjane? -- call it "the stripping away of allies," until you have the hero standing alone.

I mean, am I sad and upset? Yeah. Do I expect better from the show? Unfortunately, no. Do I wish I could expect better? Hell yes. Will I stop watching? No.

I've never been big on stripping away allies. Guess it comes from years of reading comics where, when the big battle arrives, all the heroes work together. (That's something Joss always got right, even when I was not liking Buffy anymore. She was not really alone after season two, and it stuck.)

I just wish that we had seen a lot more of the Harvelles before now. Bring them back twice and then kill them? What a waste. (For the moment, I will not even talk about how women are treated here.)
