"The Tank Man" Remembered

Twenty years ago this week, the pro-reform protests at Tiananmen Square in Beijing came to a bloody end as the Chinese government cracked down hard. From the midst of that crackdown came one of the great images of my lifetime: a single man in a white shirt standing down a column of tanks.
To mark the anniversary of that event and of that image, The New York Times' photojournalism blog recalls the event, presents the photos (there are four different if equally iconic shots), and interviews the photographers. I also recommend visiting the home page for the Frontline special on the Tank Man (which I plan to watch when I have the chance).
The name of the Tank Man, and his fate, remain unknown. But his deed will never be forgotten.
