Shea Goodbye

As some of you know, Shea Stadium, home to the New York Mets since 1964, hosted its last game last fall as the Mets prepare to move into a new state of the art ballpark. I accepted this as necessary, even though I really did love the place, warts and all. And I knew it would be torn down to make way for the parking lot missing since the new place was built.
But it's a very different thing to find that the deconstruction project has been happening rather quickly. Which is to say, here is all that's left of Shea Stadium today. It probably won't be there at all in a week. Suddenly, it's gone. And that's sort of weird, and sort of sad.
I wonder if there will be some sort of plaques in the pavement saying "Tom Seaver pitched here" and "this is where the Beatles' stage was." Given that the new park is right there, I doubt it.
