Unlikely Words

Sports fans thought that the words "The Rays are going to the World Series" were unlikely.

Not compared to "the Arizona Cardinals are going to the Super Bowl." This is a team that won one playoff in the past sixty years prior to this season. That's changed.

Congrats to the Cardinals and their fans, and especially to quarterback Kurt Warner, one of the great QBs of our day.

And here I thought my New Orleans Saints were the Chicago Cubs of the NFL. Apparently your Cards have them beat by at least a double decade. Congratulations to them, you and all their fans.

(The "Ain'ts" have only ever been in the playoffs at all twice that I recall in their forty-some years. I cherish a forlorn hope that one day in my lifetime I will hear the words "Saints in the Super Bowl" as something other than mockery or fantasy...but I'm not holding my breath for it.)

I'm actually a Giants fan, who will admit being glad to seeing the Eagles lose. But I'm also a Kurt Warner fan. He was and is a great QB and was treated badly by my team in his brief stop in New York. And I like seeing underdogs win and seeing fans find unexpected happiness.
