TV Thoughts
Nov. 21st, 2008 02:32 pmIt's quiet at work for the first time in weeks. So I am going to do a quick round-up of TV things.
1. Have been making our way through Teen Titans on DVD. Given that I was utterly dubious about it when this quasi-anime not-quite-the-comic-book-Titans show debuted, it's amazing how much I love it. It's usually fun, it offers really interesting AU versions of classic heroes, and every so often it gets really dark and really strange. We're halfway through season 4, and I think it's better with each season. Also, Rob Paulsen (the voice of Pinky, among others) has shown up in the cast twice in this season. Cool.
2. Counting down the days to Lost.
3. Still teetering about whether to watch Heroes. It's at the point, however, that I look at spoilers on the assumption that there's no reason not to. I suspect we will watch till the end of this arc, but only to see Quinto and Pasdar acting, and not out of love for any of the arc.
4. Are you watching Life? You should be. Even if you don't usually watch police procedurals or mysteries. Because it's a really good show with a great cast and cool but quirky characters and an brilliant lead actor in Damian Lewis playing the engaging and off-kilter Charlie Crews. It also has a great selection of songs, familiar and unfamiliar, for its soundtrack. And William Atherton - Walter Peck in Ghostbusters - is currently a new recurring guest, along with Christina Hendricks (apparently on Mad Men, too, but better known to Firefly fans as YoSaphBridge).
5. Smallville is sucking me back in. The departure of Lana Lang helped this show a lot, even if it also lost the Luthors. The new cast members this season are very good, the chemistry between Tom Welling and Erica Durance is getting very strong (surpassing that of Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher), and I'm actually starting to enjoy the weird version of the Superman legend they are creating for first time in a while. It's still not the greatest show ever, but it's fun again. And when the show comes back in January, we get to meet the founding members of the Legion of Super-Heroes!
6. The only show I love more of late than Supernatural is Lost. Given that I thought it was just an OK, mildly cheesy horror show when it debuted, it's hard to believe how good it's gotten. Troubling sometimes, and a little harsh, and questionable in how it handles certain things, but otherwise amazing. The expansion of the show's mythology has worked better than I thought it would, the supporting cast is nearly as strong as the stars, and the dynamic between Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki is always perfect. Just imagine how much I'd like this show if I really were into horror.
7. Lastly, I am also counting down the days till the Doctor Who Christmas special. Even if the finale last season left a bad taste in my mouth, this show calls to me. And we have to relish every one of the remaining five episodes that David Tennant will be in the lead. That teaser that was aired last week once again reminds me just how very good he is.
And that's my TV viewing.

"He plays at Milliways...?"
"I know him from filk conventions."
He says that if you're not sure as to who he is, Batya will know. He's
