Detective Comics 848 - While Batman fight a scared ten year old on Venom, Hush attacks Catwoman and steals her heart. Plus more of Thomas Eliot's life story. A very readable issue that once again shows that Dini actually has some idea of what to do with Hush even though he's not that much of a villain. Alas, what happens to Selina Kyle is dumb - no heart usually means immediate death, no matter how many comic book machines you attach to her - and yet another example of a strong female character reduced to just the girlfriend of the hero, at which point she rapidly becomes a Woman in Refrigerator. Selina deserves a lot better. So do the readers. What was Dini thinking? Still, this story is still better than I expected it would be.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight 18 - More of Buffy and Fray in the future, more of preset Willow trying to save Buffy and future Willow trying to doom her. Good, readable, fun Whedonian stuff, great script, some nice twists, but a bit padded.
Angel: After the Fall 12 - Angel lays dying, and Cordelia is there to take him to the next world. Even as Gunn and Wesley meet again and as it becomes clear that everything really is about Angel. It's interesting reading Buffy and Angel the same day. Like the shows, the styles are different, Buffy lighter and more straightforward and less ambitious a bit more steady and successful, Angel sometimes plodding, and sometimes ironically funny, often challenging, a bit less predictable, a bit convoluted, but still entertaining in its own way. My biggest concern is that the arc here will run too long and get too complex. But I love the scripts and am glad to have both Buffy and Angel every month.
