Olympics

They will be holding the Olympics in Beijing starting this week. I will not be watching. This is my very small protest against the games being held under the auspices of a regime that I despise. I wish I could do more, but my feeling is that, for the most part, the world really isn't bothered by the Chinese government or its corporate apologists.

Had you been planning to watch them otherwise? I suppose I could be considered to be boycotting by not watching, but the truth is, I don't usually watch the Olympics anyway.

I might have watched some of the basketball. And not very much else. So I could say that it's not much of a boycott on my part either. But I feel like there is a small difference between disinterest and disgust.

At least, I hope there is.

I honestly think the lack of promotion this time around is due to corporate sponsors agreeing with you.

If you hadn't mentioned it I would have missed it entirely. As it stands I think I'll use the time to watch my new Firefly and Freakazoid dvds.

I probably will be watching, mainly because I've never actually watched the olympics before.

I agree that there are problems with the way China operates, but given the state of my own country I'm not sure I'm in any position to judge. But good for you for standing up for what you believe in.
