100 Years Ago Today: Tunguska
Jun. 30th, 2008 08:47 amThe Tunguska explosion, considered to be the most well known and most destructive asteroid strike on Earth in modern times, happened a century ago today. The JPL website Revisits the event and the efforts to understand what happened in that (thankfully) remote corner of Siberia.
Space.com reviews the facts, as well, and explores other possible causes for the event, though the asteroid hypothesis seems to be the most likely. And it does seem very unlikely that Nikola Tesla built and tested a death ray.
