Let's get to it, shall we?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight 15 - Things happen quickly in the wake of Renee's death, and thanks to Dracula, Dawn and Andrew, Satsu, and Willow, Buffy and her army prevail. This was the big final fight scene of the episode, and as such, there was very little new here. However, it was a great final fight scene, with some amazing character moments for most of the cast, even Renee (not that I forgive Joss for killing her). Any complaints I had about the Buffyverse Dracula are dispelled with his conduct in this issue. And Andrew has the moment he's planned for his entire life. Really entertaining stuff. And next up...Fray!

Detective Comics 845 - There's a serial killer in Gotham, and he's got even Batman stumped. But that won't stop the Riddler from solving the mystery. A very gripping and well done mystery that continues to develop the role of the Riddler. It also actually references Jezebel Jet (the love interest in Morrison's Batman), gives us the first appearance of Catwoman in this series since Dini took over, and has a rather interesting and charming scene where Batman and Detective Chimp have an IM chat about the case and about the Riddler. Another stellar outing by Dini and Nguyen. As much as I like Morrison's ideas for Batman, this remains THE Batbook for me in terms of how Batman's portrayed and what he gets to do.

Robin/Spoiler Special 1 - Two stories - in the first, Robin and Spoiler hang out and thwart a kidnapping; in the second Spoiler's days in Africa are revisited. There's nothing particularly great or particularly bad about this comic. It's two rather typical Dixon stories that do a good job with using Steph and Tim and Leslie Thompkins, but that seem familiar and that really don't need a special. Why couldn't these be in the regular monthly comic? Probably because DC knew readers like me would buy it and ask questions later.

Trinity 1 - It's DC's next weekly comic, starring Supes, Bats and Wonder Woman, not linked to any other comics. Each issue will have two stories, the main one written by Kurt Busiek and drawn by Mark Bagley, the latter connected to the main tale and written by Fabian Nicieza with a rotating team of artists. In this first installment, the Big Three have each had a similar dream, and wonder what it portends, and two villains with similar dreams prepare their plans. The art by Bagley and Scott McDaniel is great. The writing was pretty good. The plot barely gets going, though. There is a lot of promise here, but given the format, I think that it will take a while to really judge. More to come...

I bought Robin/Spoiler for pretty much the same reason you did. :-)

Trinity needed to be mostly set-up. If they're really planning to keep the same story going on for 52 issues, centered on the same three characters, the plot will have to unfold slowly.
