There is a lot to say about last night's generally amazing, if occasionally baffling, finale to Lost. That I loved it is self-evident. That I am ever more certain this show is one of the best ever is true as well. That I could go on and on is not a surprise.

But I want to mention just one thing...The Kiss. “Since the invention of the kiss, there have only been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.” As much as I think Michael Emerson deserves an Emmy for his work as Ben, Henry Ian Cusick might deserve it just as much for making us care so very much about Desmond and making Desmond/Penny THE OTP of this series.

Screw the epic battle between the Losties and the Others, this show is all about the epic battle of the OTPs: Sun/Jin, Rose/Bernard, Desmond/Penny, Charlie/Claire, Kate/Sawyer, Kate/Jack, and Daniel/Charlotte. This show does OTP rite.

I can't stand Jack/Kate. They had a lot of sexual chemistry in "Something Nice Back Home," yes, but on a creative standpoint it's spectacularly dull and unimaginative: the hero leader man gets the spunky hero female sidekick. Given the fervor over Harry/Hermione vs. Ron/Hermione and the love many people have for Han/Leia, one would think that the writers would get a clue that audiences like it when the sidekick man gets the sidekick girl.

Anyway, the show is making it painfully obvious that Jack/Kate would self destruct, because Jack is a gigantic douche who can't properly tune in to Kate's problems.

I seriously wonder sometimes if I'm the only one who thinks Jack/Juliet is the one that would work best.

Although she deserves better than him, honestly, god.

Jack/Juliet would work better than Jack/Kate because Juliet doesn't let Jack steamroll all over her the way Kate does.

Yeah, I think it was on purpose. Also, as a long critic of "but it'd be sooo hott!", I'd like to say that the quality of fictional relationships is not equal to the sexual chemistry between the characters alone. ;)

Although Kate/Sawyer is sooo hott.

I love Penny/Desmond, but I also love Jack/Kate intensely, particularly with the beautiful work they did in Something Good Back Home. That was luminous, delicate acting from both Fox and Lilly.

Surprisingly, I was unmoved by Penny and Desmond last night - it wasn't as spectacular as their phone call, and it seemed like it happened too quickly. Now I wonder if Desmond is off the show entirely.
