- A MP3/AVI player for Batya. It has an FM radio, which is one of those features that has been missing from such devices and that have made them less attractive to someone like me who still listens to the radio. I think, alas, that seeing an MP3 player with an AM radio is still some time in the future, and thus I will still wait. (I want my sports!) But we are getting there. And if I need to borrow a player short-term, I can.

- An HDTV converter for our TV. The good news: for the first time since I dropped cable when I married Bayta, we actually have high quality reception. I can watch CBS again without fighting with the antenna. The bad news: we don't get every channel as the current signal for the local PBS station doesn't register. I will be looking into the possibility of getting a better antenna. The other bad news: the converter is a separate electric device. In order to watch TV, I need to use the TV, the converter and an electric-powered indoor antenna. Add to that a VCR that is always running and a DVD player and that won't help with my carbon footprint.

- The Simpsons, season 8, for $20 (at Target). That's less than a dollar an episode (25 in all) and it includes such classics as "You Only Move Twice" (Hank Scorpio) and "The Brother from Another Series" (Sideshow Bob's brother Cecil). As always, every episode has commentary - to my knowledge no DVD collection aside from these and Futurama can boast that - and the voices we hear include not just writers but cast members and even Kelsey Grammer.

- A new Mets cap, since I needed a new one.

I got Simpsons S8 for my birthday, it's awesome. :) You got it significantly cheaper though.
