Four weeks in a row, I have bought a comic with Joss Whedon's name on the cover (in part because my copy of Angel was late). Not counting 52, I can't ever recall having that happen.

Booster Gold 7 - Well, Beetle not being dead has somehow led to a world in Max Lord's thrall, with OMAC everywhere and Superman in Max's power and lots of heroes dead. Which means Booster and Beetle are left to fight. A lot. And of course, the future Blue Beetle isn't what we hoped he was, after all, as he, Booster's dad, Ultra-Humanite, Despero and Per Degaton reunite as the Time Stealers. Can Rip and Daniel save the day? Or will Beetle have to die?

On one hand, a lot of this is very much by the numbers. We all still think that Ted will have to accept his death. We all still think that everything here will be predictable. But it's hard to complain too loudly, since the Blue and Gold team has never been better written, since the art is great, since the story is fun, even with the dystopia our heroes have created by accident. At this point, I will assume that Johns and Katz have a few interesting surprises up their sleeves and that our concerns of the Usual Ending to Such Things is misplaced.

I do have to wonder, though: why does it seem like the other pieces of Countdown to Infinite Crisis that were in play at the same time as the OMAC Project never happened? Surely Alex Luthor would have seen to it, right?

Serenity: Better Day 1 - For once, a heist goes well. Very well. That's pretty much it.

Compared to the dense character play of the other Joss TV comic book spinoffs, this is lightweight. Stuff happens, there is a little character work, and we move to the next issue. It's fun to read, but not what we expect from anything with Joss' name on it. Maybe this once Joss was going for lightweight? That's not a bad thing, once in a while. I figure that the series would have had a few episodes like this. And it's great to have new canon for Mal and the crew. But there's little that would be of much note to anyone but Serenity fans.

So far, I see no reason why (except for the whole Inara-sleeping-with-Non!Mal) this couldn't become a FF barplot, just to have an episodic thing.

...tempting. *eyes things* With tweaking, it could work really well.

Obviously, I wanna know about Fed Tattoo Guy first. But with the Dust Devils mention, and thinking back to that random script that never got made with the Browncoat-turned-terrorists, there are interesting prospects there.

Yeah -- I can't see doing anything with it until we've got the full run.

On the other hand, it'll be done just in time for another summer plot. >:D

Yeah huh. *nods head fervently*

...Inara asking Mal if he was a Dust Devil would go really awkwardly too. Aheheh.

Like -- I was just trying to think about how much Inara might actually know or not know about the nitty-gritty specifics of what Mal's record looks like.

The answer is 'Not a whole hell of a lot'.

The answer's addendum gets weirder with '...Gabriel Tam knows more than Inara does'.

You know what it is though? Inara makes Mal happy, and he doesn't live in his head as much as he used to, and --

Oh, I'll just write a post about it. ^_^;

:O! I have no clue what you're talking about! Mal is completely reliable and unbiased. Jeez.

This issue of Booster Gold confused me, because I thought I remembered from last month that Booster saved Blue Beetle in a way to make everyone still think that he was dead, thus preserving the historical timeline.

If you haven't looked at the Time Masters trade paperback yet, you might want to. There are rumors that some of the plot points in that book will be relevant for future issues of Booster Gold.
