Here be spoilers, folken! So if you don't want to know that Buffy is killed and replaced by Bucky Barnes, stop reading here! :)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season Eight 12 - Sorry. The rumors were wrong. Oz is not in this one. Nor any werewolves. No, we have Japanese goth vampires who can become wolves, or fog, or bees. And of course, this sounds familiar to anyone who remembers the season five premiere, and Dracula. The vamps steal the scythe, by the way.
Oh, and Buffy sleeps with Satsu. And tries to keep this quiet since she's Buffy and sucks at interpersonal relationships, only everyone finds out right away.
I could talk about the significance of this vis a vis pop culture, sociology, and so on. I think plenty of others will instead. I'd rather answer the question of "is this any good?" I think it is. The script is by Drew Goddard, who cut his teeth with Joss and is now known for his work on Lost and the screenplay for Cloverfield. And he hits all the right notes, making the funny funny but not too much so, and getting inside both Buffy and Satsu's heads. Everything flows. And makes sense. And of course, there will be repercussions since sleeping with anyone in the BuffyVerse is never simple.
This has become the most reliable comic book around, I think. Even if the art is still sometimes a little off for the actors' faces, this is a wonderful, well paced, fun and heartfelt comic.
Teen Titans Year One 3 - Lots of lighthearted (if slightly silly ) fun. But after reading Buffy, it's hard to be very impressed with the story. Is that fair? Probably not.
Then again, it's also that rare comic I would give to a kid. That alone is something special.
