JMS on OMD
Jan. 3rd, 2008 01:09 pmAs many of you know, J. Michael Straczynski wrapped up his run on Amazing Spider-Man with the controversial "One More Day" story arc, an arc that ultimately taken by Marvel's Editor-in-Chief, Joe Quesada, in a direction he himself disliked. With much Internet debate raging, JMS addressed the issues in a letter to Newsarama, the content of which can be found in this article.
It makes for fascinating reading, in part because JMS is not afraid to criticize the story and the conclusion, and in part because he never once turns his concerns into anything personal. He makes his case and moves on, and never calls anyone names or sounds like anything less than a reasonable adult.
I am, as many of you also know, not a big JMS fan. Which is to say, I am not a big fan of his work. But I think it's accurate to say that I have come to like and respect him more and more. He is the kind of writer and of person that we need more on, in this age of the Internet diatribe.
