Thoughts for January 1
Jan. 1st, 2008 04:37 pm- The problem for me with staying up till 1 am is that even if I get the same number of hours of sleep, it's not the same as getting them at the right time. Which is to say, anything I get after 6 am is not in the same league as anything I get before.
- Watched a bit of the outdoor pro hockey game today. I was reminded of why I like hockey, and also why I don't watch it that often. It's a pretty and graceful sport, but when it's regu;ar season and so little is on the line, it rarely engages me for long (even if Sidney Crosby of Pittsburgh, christened "The Next One" by the media, is playing).
- I keep debating whether I should do a Year in Comics post. But I am not sure that would be fun to write. Suffice it to say for now, 2007 was not my favorite year for comics, though I count at least five comics from the past year that fill me with glee - X-Factor, Buffy, The Spirit, Booster Gold and 52 - and there were times that Detective and Fables came close. So there is hope yet. Maybe.
- And yes, if you are wondering about how I am saluting X-Factor when I never reviewed it once, that's because I have been getting in collected form. It's actually quite worthy of being bought in whatever format it appears in, but it works much better in larger doses. It's that rare X-book that is not at all confusing to people like me who barely know the X-verse, and it's also just so well written. PAD hasn't been this good since the first year of Captain Marvel. Buy it!
