Monday Things
Dec. 24th, 2007 09:11 am1. The streets near the museum were empty this morning, like a Sunday. I've never seen that before on what is obstensibly not a holiday. Guess everyone else has off.
2. If you are in NYC, don't observe Christmas, and are looking for something to do that is not a movie, I'm working tomorrow, too. The Jewish Museum is open from 11 am to 4:30 pm. It will be packed, but the Steig show is worth your time, and you can come say hi. I'll likely either be at the front desk or working the lines.
3. If you want a movie, though, I can recommend I Am Legend. Be warned that it does get rather intense at some points. But Will Smith is great, carrying a film that could have been lousy and is instead entertaining, gripping and proof again that co-screenwriter Akiva Goldsman - who wrote the Schumacher Batman travesties and Lost in Space - has talent after all. At least when Will Smith (who also worked with his script in I, Robot) is around.
4. Also saw the original pilot for Heroes. While I am glad that the show changed direction in terms of who the bad guys were, there were a lot of things that clicked much better here than in the pilot as it aired. it's interesting to see how certian characters changed - in one case, drastically - and it's also interesting that a line from Nathan comparing Peter to Roger Clinton was altered in the final version. I have often complained that Nathan's campaign seemed disconnected from reality. Lines like that would have gone a long way to making a connection, but might have also been deemed a bit risky for a show like this..
