This Week's Comics in Breif
Nov. 15th, 2007 02:31 pmFour comics, no time for long reviews. But three of them were worth the time.
Batman and the Outsiders 1 - Readable, entertaining, a bit retro, and great art. Given that Dixon was a last minute hire for this series, it could be quite good (if not particularly deep) once he gets used to the cast and the premise.
Booster Gold 4 - The villains revealed! Fun, also entertaining, also a bit retro. See a trend emerging? DC's best hope is clearly to embrace old school storytelling. Next issue, though, mught be something big.
All-Star Superman 9 - You can't be more retro than this. But Morrison's attempt to take what would have been an eight page story in 1960 fails at over twice the length. What was a great book at first is showing signs of the same fatigue that always sets in with Morrison. I guess it's not a bad thing that he only plans to write 12 issues.
Fables 67 - While still part of the overly long "Good Prince" epic, this issue stands on its own two feet well while advancing the arc. I still haven't any idea where it's headed, but I feel better than I did after the last issue.
