Heroes: Four Months Ago
Nov. 13th, 2007 08:57 amGadzooks, what a mess. Bad script, bad pacing, huge flaws in continuity, logic and storytelling, bad choices about what we see and what we don't.
I will just address two issues:
1. DL. It was difficult enough that he seemingly died at the end of the S1 finale. Of the original main cast, only three have died, and all are minorities (DL, Simone and Isaac). Even though this is totally not on purpose, I'm sure, it grates on me a bit.
But to learn that DL didn't die then; that he put his life together; that he found a way to use his powers for good and without drawing too much attention; and that he died a totally meaningless death? What is up with that? Better he should have died at Linderman's hands. At least in that case, he died trying to save his wife, and stopping the villain. but now, his death is just pointless and almost random.
OK, we now that some writers like the pointless and random death. But Tim Kring is not Joss Whedon. And Joss would have made the death matter in some way, or made it hurt, or something worth mentioning. Kirng simply made DL a sacrifice on the altar of "Niki's Broken." Which, BTW, is still utterly dull.
It's a shame they came up with such a good idea for DL and then killed him. I was really liking him here.
2. The Big Boom itself. Bob tells Niki that it's not in the newspaper. How is that possible? Last I checked, something that big and bright and loud isn't going to just be ignored. Not in this day and age. At the very least, they should have thrown us a line about it being called a meteor or something, about the Company using its hidden operatives in the media and City Hall.
Of course, there's also the matter of the radiation. You know, the stuff that was killing Nathan? Assuming that Peter went boom with the same force in the sky as he would have on the ground, there should have been a lot more fallout. And maybe an EMP. But all this is glossed over.
They promised us answers. But none of the answers really made sense. Or satisfied. And never mind that we still don't have Matt's missing months, or the Bennets', or Ando's.
in short, this show is going backwards, and I am so glad that Kirng realizes it. It might be too late for this arc, though. Let's hope that whenever the next arc arrives, things will be better.

Date: Nov. 13th, 2007 03:13 pm (UTC)(Shown as if someone across the river was filming the Peter-explosion; followed by a falling "star", which was caught by a figure swooping down and then away -- you can tell by contrails.)
That's really disappointing.
