This Week's Comics - Buffy, Crime Bible
Nov. 8th, 2007 01:36 pmI'm going to start off by saying that it's getting harder and harder to write this subset of my blog. There is not much that can be said of late about nearly every comic nook I buy. The good ones don't need much commentary, and the bad ones don't inspire me even to complain. I'm not going to stop reviewing comics, but I might not be doing much in the way of spoilers for a while. Unless there's a need.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer 8 was readable, and BKV has Faith's voice perfect. But I think that the last two issues could easily have been one issue, and that the art continues to be hit and miss. Who were those girls? Oh, they were Buffy and Willow. Are you sure? The plot is also not as exciting as I thought it could be. Still much fun, but this could be so much better.
The Crime Bible (yes, that's the name of a comic book), on the other hand, was lousy. The Greg Rucka who wrote Gotham Central and Detective and Whiteout is gone. We now have someone whose pacing is poor, who dialogue is cliched, and who really seems to think that an idea as ridiculous as the Crime Bible (as seen in 52) works in the least. I'm glad that Renee Montoya, in her new guise as the Question, is getting the spotlight. But everything that surrounds her is not worth the money or time. Call this yet another DC dud.
