Evil SOBs, Look Out!

So the cast of Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen has been announced. Its stars are people whose work I'm not familiar with, mainly Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan and Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach.

However, I do know the actor playing the small but important role of the Comedian: Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Never mind that he gets to die yet again. Never mind that he really looks the part.

What matters is that clearly, somewhere out there his two sons are gearing up to find whoever killed their dad. :)

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian? That rocks!!!
I'm lukewarm on Billy Crudup, but I think Jakie Earle Haley as Rorschach is a real neat choice.

I really liked Crudup in Almost Famous and Waking the Dead. And apparently, he's been performing in The Coast of Utopia, a trilogy of Tom Stoppard plays, so the guy definitely has range.

Doesn't matter, though. This project is hopelessly doomed.

If by this you mean that this is the most unfilmable graphic novel ever, I agree. This is not a reflection on any of the actors, or on Snyder (whose films I don't know, either). It's just too dense a story, and stripping it down to anything less than a LotR-length miniseries is impossible.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. If HBO wanted to do a series, they'd definitely get my benefit of doubt. But anyone else? DOOMED.

As for Snyder, he's the guy who brought us the Dawn of the Dead remake and, more importantly, 300. Now 300 was definitely goofy fun, but I can't imagine a film LESS like Watchmen.
