A quick shout-out to the Phillies and their fans on the occasion of winning the World Series. In theory, as a Mets fan I should be sneering about this. But the Phils did everything right, and a lot of things the Mets didn't. They earned this title, period. And did the way it should be done, with a mix of shrewd trades and home-grown talent and a great team dynamic.

And surely the people of Philadelphia, one of America's great cities, have gone too long without a title. That wait is over at last, and as someone whose own teams excepting the Giants) tend to let him down, I am glad to see the City of Brotherly Love celebrate today.

2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

I was given "D"

1. Deadman (DC Comics)
I haven't read a lot of his canon, but he's usually one of DC's most arresting and bizarre supernatural heroes. Long before Sam Beckett, he was stepping into people's bodies, setting right what was going wrong, and being endearingly snarky about it. He was also one of a few heroes who Batman felt comfortable enough to trust with his life when such a thing was rare. And he's got a great costume.

2. Demona (Gargoyles)
The grand, over-the-top conflicted villain of the show, voiced with perfect harshness by Marina Sirtis. We were never sure how sorry to feel for her, how much to hate her, and how much to pity her. So we did all three.

3. Desmond Hume (Lost)
Who would have guessed that a seeming one-off character would turn into the emotional heart of Lost? Fascinating, at times creepy, totally human, and always believable on a show that can be a bit out there sometimes. Never mind that Ian Henry Cusick is a great actor.

4. Darkwing Duck
He was the terror that flaps in the night, the wrench in the machine of crime!! Egotistical star of the show by the same name, sometimes a caped clod and sometimes as capable as they get. He was hard to like and even harder not to like as he made St. Canard safe.

5. Dick Grayson (DC Comics)
AKA Robin, AKA Nightwing. The one non-powered hero I want to be. Smart, handsome, witty, dedicated but not obsessive, loyal.
