Muppet News, Good and Bad
Sep. 29th, 2005 01:06 pmThe good: Today, the Post Office is releasing a new stamp to mark the 50th annviersary of Kermit the Frog's first appearance, long ago on a local TV show in Washington called "Sam and Friends." Hard to believe the legendary frog has been around so long. Word is that Disney and the Hensons, partners at last, are hoping to use the anniversary to relaunch the Muppets. I hope it works.
Tha bad: Jerry Juhl passed away Monday. Juhl the first person ever hired by Jim Henson when Henson set out on his own, and was The Writer for the Muppets, having worked on The Muppet Show, all six Muppet films, and Fraggle Rock. He (along with puppeteer Dave Goelz) is credited with turning a one-note freak of a Muppet named Gonzo into a fully developed and beloved figure. The world that he hepled develop is a bit sadder for his loss.
