Remembering Grandpa Zolly
Aug. 18th, 2004 11:34 amAs many of you may have heard, Batya's grandfather, Zolomon Levin, passed on last Saturday at the age of 90.
Here's the (somewhat odd) obituary about him from the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

Here's the death notice on the same website (note that Zolly and Cesil Levin were married 62 years, not 52!):

These bits of newspaper info don't sum up one-tenth of the man I knew and came to love. I was lucky when I found Batya, luckier still that her family has such amazing people in it, and very lucky to find new grandparents who welcomed me as one of the family. Grandpa Zolly could be a tough old cuss sometimes, but he filled the world with warmth and vigor and charm, and passed so much to his family. You want to know where Batya gets her stubborn determination from? It was in Grandpa Zolly first.
Batya's father is sitting shiva in New Orleans through Friday, and then at home in Queens on Saturday night and Sunday. We are likely to be there at that time as well, to help out, to comfort each other, and to celebrate a life worth celebrating. Anyone who wants more exact info on getting there can contact me.
