The End for the Rovers?
Jul. 5th, 2007 04:49 pmSpace.com reports that a massive sandstorm on Mars may doom the Mars rovers. Without sunlight, the two dauntless robotic explorers will possibly lose battery power forever.
I hope that this isn't the end, but given that Spirit and Opportunity have lived more than 10 times longer than the initial mission was supposed to last, it's not a sad ending at all. But they will be missed.
And this is also a reminder that any manned mission to Mars will face challenges unlike any we've ever seen on Earth.
