We finally saw it. And liked it.

Here's the deal. I liked the first film, but didn't love it. And then I thought the second was little more than a drearier rehash of the first, with good performances but lots of plot holes. Even with the famous subway scene. And I had heard uniformly weak reviews of this from friends. So I went in with low expectations.

Maybe that never hurts. Or maybe I would have enjoyed it anyway. But despite a few logic holes, and despite really not liking MJ anymore, I have a very enjoyable couple of hours. The bad guys were interesting without being insane, the action sequences were good, there were a few good twists, and the cast was very strong. Tobey Maguire plays Peter Parker perfectly, even when Peter turns into a jerk. This was good old fashioned super-hero fun. It was not the greatest movie ever made, and won't make me forget Pirates or LotR. But I was glad I went to it.

I just hope that if there are more Spidey films, they stay away from the overly grandiose villains, they use less MJ, and they never hire anyone else to play the starring role.
