...Wondered if we'd get a DVD.
Well, coming out at long last next Tuesday
The first season of WKRP

Sort of.

As some of you might know, the classic 70s sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati was not released on DVD because the show used a lot of popular songs in the background. In some ways this was groundbreaking, anticipating the now-commonplace use of music on TV and in the movies. But no one anticipated the arrival of video tape or DVD when the permissions were negotiated, and the money the record companies was asking for was, not surprisingly, very high.

So WKRP sat in the vaults, and negotiations got nowhere. And finally, the studio that owned the show gave up. The DVD will be missing the songs. There are other songs (no doubt ones you don't know) in their place. Purists are up in arms. It won't be quite the show I remember.

But it's still about time. I loved this show. Les Nessman, Herb Tarlek, Mr. Carlson, Jennifer, Bailey, Venus Flytrap, and the legendary Dr. Johnny Fever...this show was always a hoot, occasionally thought-provoking, and even surprising once in a while. I don't when I'll get around to buying it - there is so much else out there I want and don't have. But I can't wait to see the old gang at the mighty KRP.

Even if the music is gone.

The only episode I remember with any real clarity, was when Herb was trying to impress a news crew or something that came to follow him around. They came on a Sunday, and Herb woke up his kids and said they were going to go to church. The kids were all like, "where?"

He put them in the car and drove around everywhere, and eventually pulled into a synagogue by mistake. It was pretty funny. I'd be interested in seeing the show again after all this time.
