The Spirit 5 - Someone is hawking canned baked beans with a picture of the Spirit on the cans. And the Spirit isn't happy.
Really. This is the gist of the plot, which involves Russian mobsters and a strange man having an affair with a vulture. And also throws in some rather blatant satire of how we market products to kids.
It's not bad, but it revives my sense that Darwyn Cooke, in trying to be as varied in his style and subject matter as Eisner was in the original comic, is not in control of the material. Never mind that Cooke is not at all subtle with his satire.
The Brave and the Bold 3 - On Earth, Batman gets the help of the new Blue Beetle to find the fugitive alien, but they aren't the only ones looking. And on Ventura, Supergirl gets help to get her to Rann.
I enjoyed this when I read it two days ago, but it's a blur now. This is very light fare, almost not worth my time. I will probably stay till the end of the arc before deciding, but right now it's not looking good. Waid is capble of much better work.
