Two now, and two later...

52, Week Fifty - Black Adam versus everyone. Note if you will that I am not touching the "World War III" books. DC told us 52 would require no additional purchases, and as far as I can tell, that's true. All I need to know is in this story. Oh, the WWIII books might fill in the blanks about a few things, but DC is not getting my money at this point to do that in other books. Sorry, Didio, you can explain that 52 wasn't what you planned, but that doesn't mean I have to pay extra.

Besides, I am tired of more overblown fights. We saw enough of that in Infinite Crisis. Suffice it to say, this issue is like that. A few good character moments, a well-thought out ending, a good script, and not much else. Luckily, this is not the end of 52, since it would have been a letdown. The end looks like it finally involves Booster, Rip Hunter and TO Morrow! We'll see in two weeks if my hopes are justified.

Mightwing Annual 2 - Wherein we learn what happened after Dick proposed to Babs. Alas, we don't learn why, one year later, they are not a couple anymore. But Marc Andreyko does a very good job showing us the weeks after Dick almost died in the final battle against Alex Luthor, and also looks back at the complex and sad and sweet relationship that so many DC fans love (but that Dan Didio hates). I've heard a lot about Andreyko, the highly praised writer of the low-selling Manhunter series, and it's good to see that the buzz is accurate. He gets both Dick and Babs, and finds a way to put a bow on the Devin Grayson era (now forgotten by DC). If Wolfman decides to move on, we could do a lot worse on NW than Andreyko. The book also boasts fine art by Joe Bennett, who should get a regular gig now that 52 is ending.
