Brubaker Speaks
Mar. 8th, 2007 09:01 amThat's Ed Brubaker, the accomplished comic book writer who currently handles Captain America. In this interview with Newsarama, he explains where the controversial events came from, how they tie to Civil War, and what's coming next.
I still don't like how Marvel is doing another Event before the dust from Civil War settles. But it's clear that at its core, Brubaker wanted to do something different with a character whose book still doesn't sell, who is an icon but one that many think is outdated. For once, it seems like the story really came from the writer. I also think that had this just been a story, and not an Event, the fanboy collective might be more willing to wait and see what happens, and not merely sneer and say "been there, done that."
I'm not rushing to start buying this comic, but it bears watching from my perch. And it might be time to think about getting the earlier Cap TPBs and seeing just what Brubaker has done.

It's the
purely randombright ideas the editors come up with (for both Marvel and DC) that I've learned to have a kneejerk skepticism about. Thanks for posting that.

Date: Mar. 8th, 2007 06:12 pm (UTC)And I think most of the online fandom share this opinion of editors about now. Unless the editor is Breevort (or maybe Marts), we expect the worst from them. I miss the days when writers like Wein and Goodwin and O'Neil could get promoted to editor.
