After a good week last week, this week's batch is somewhat more meh.
52, Week Forty-Three - We focus on the Black Adam family, with a stop at the Rock of Eternity before returning to Kandhaq. And what might have worked in eight pages at most is a bit dull as a feature. But then things change in a hurry. So at least it's good set-up. But not much else. We also get the return of Lady Styx, which is meh. And a great bit with Buddy Baker that bodes very well.
Runaways 24 - The final issue of the BKV Era is here, and while there are some great moments and a really interesting ending, the run doesn't end on a high note. It just ends. Which is okay since the book isn't being cancelled. On the whole, BKV's Runaways was a very good comic that started out as a great one and couldn't maintain the high note. No shame in that, but for most of the second series, I kept wanting to be as good as the first. Next up: Joss.
Connor Hawke: Dragon's Blood 3 - We learn what was up with the contest, see lots of fighting and death, and get Eddie Fyers in his element. Fun if still not very noteworthy.
Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes 27 - The Dominators and their AIs attack, and things are bad. Given how good this series was, the utter blandness of this issue is a bit surprising. Never mind that I can't remember much of what's been going on before this. I wish I were more upset that Waid and Kitson have announced that issue 30 will be the last of their run, but the execution just ain't doing it.
Doctor Strange: The Oath 5 - The end of BKV's other last book for Marvel is a solid finale, though the whole was a bit short of brilliant. We get drama, morality, and even a kiss. I like BKV's take on Dr. Strange and Night Nurse, but will admit that there is not market for them.
