Briefly...
Nov. 20th, 2006 09:22 am1. I have a cold with the salient feature of making me tired. I think I will just take it slow, and hope that it's gone by Turkey Day, as we are going to see my new niece.
2. The niece is named Nili Yoseefa. Nili (pornounced Nee-Lee), derived from a verse in Samuel which became an acronym for an early Zionist organization, is in honor of both my father and my mother's father, who shared Hebrew name of Natan. (There are few good Hebrew names with an N for women.) Yoseefa is derived from Yosef (Joseph in English), which was the Hebrew name of my cousin Jordan, who passed away last year. My mother is very happy that my brother honored her father, husband and "brother" at once. So am I.
3. In TV land, the CW has given an order of seven more episodes of Veronica Mars, for a run of 20 this season. That's two short of the usual, and Rob Thomas is busy trying to rewrite the second and third mystery arcs now. While this sure beats cancellation, it doesn't bode well for the future. If I were a betting man, I'd guess that the show is in trouble.
4. When asked why he hasn't written more about Supernatural, TV Guide critic Matt Roush answered "Believe me, Supernatural's on my list." We can look forward to a good write-up about it from the TV critic most supportive of quality fantasy and SF. Glad to know he's been watching.
5. Lastly, another Heroes casting announcement: George Takei will be playing Hiro's father. How cool is that? Heroes will also be running 23 episodes, with the first 11 ending in December, and then runs of seven without reruns for February sweeps and five without reruns to end the season.
