Jack Palance and Darkseid

As many of you have heard, Jack Palance has passed away. But what you many not know is that Mr. Palance's acheivements inspired Jack Kirby in a rather intersting way.

As Mark Evanier reveals here, Kirby used Palance's face as a model for his greatest evil creation, Darkseid.

Which I find amazingly cool.

And can't you just here Palance's trademark gravelvoice as the master of Apokolis?

That is sad. I will never forget Jack Palance getting into a pissing contest about one-armed push-ups on the Oscars the year that Billy Crystal was running a 103 degree fever while hosting the show.
